HOW DID THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS WORSHIP THEIR GODS?
Homes
Bes and Tawreet are the two main gods of the household and as a shrine to them, often pictures of these two deities were painted onto the walls of their homes. Because Bes played the cymbals, it he was sometimes shown to be playing the cymbals whilst dancers perform in his honour, while being dressed up like him. It is assumed that the Ancient Egyptians worshipped some god in their homes, maybe by placing 'little offerings of divine statuettes'. Bes and Tawreet's statuettes were most commonly arranged in niches so that they could keep an eye on things. Head rests and bed legs were carved in a shape that is said to protect the person sleeping in the bed at night.
Temples
It was believed that the temples were the homes of the Gods and Goddesses, and every temple was dedicated to at least one God or Goddess and the people that worshipped in there were the Pharaohs and the temple priests. The buildings were made of stone so that they would not deteriorate over time, this has ensured that they are still intact today. To decorate the insides, there are paintings and carvings, representing the the God or Goddess that the temple was dedicated to, and to decorate the outsides, often there were sculptures or statues of them.
